How much rain does El Paso get?

The average annual rainfall for the City of El Paso is approximately nine inches (9.43 inches). Other climatological facts (extremes and normals) to consider or keep in mind for the El Paso area are:

• Highest temperature is 114 °F (June 30, 1994).

• Greatest number of days 100 °F or above have been 62 (1994).

• Average number of days 100 °F or above are 14.3 days.

• Consecutive number of days 100 °F or above are 23 (June 23 to July 15, 1994).
• Maximum precipitation in 24 hours have been 6.5 inches (July 9, 1881).
• Maximum monthly precipitation is 8.81 inches (July 1881).
• Maximum annual precipitation is 18.29 inches (1884).
• Maximum number of consecutive days without rain (not even a trace!) is 109 (February 6 to May 2, 2002).
• Peak recorded gust at 84 miles per hour (March 10, 1977).
• Normal Annual possible sunshine is 88.2% (1970 to 2000).

Two sets of climatological data were collected and compared for this project. The first set is a 60 year monthly precipitation data obtained from The University of Texas at El Paso Department of Geology. The second set is a preliminary 9 year daily climatological data obtained from the National Weather Service website. The monthly data resulted in 756 data points (months) and the daily data resulted in 3288 data points (days). The daily data was selected for the PRC system design.
